The panel gives an overview on participatory approach used in the implementation of
the UNDP/GEF Danube Pollution Reduction Program. Particular attention is given to
activities involving participants from government, local administration, NGOs,
scientific institutions and cooperating agencies. The organization of training
workshops and consultation meetings at national and regional level facilitated the
effective participation of all stakeholders. The implementation of community based
projects under the "Small Grants Program" strengthened local NGOs initiatives and
contributed essentially to raise awareness at all levels.
