Water multistakeholder platforms are becoming more and important as part of the solution to the complexity of water and sanitation issues in today’s fast changing world. Usually these platforms form around partnership and combine a web platform with an extensive network that may reach from global to local level. Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM)

The Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM) is a platform that systematically documents and shares knowledge on climate change adaptation practices and operational guidance. Seeking to provide stakeholders with a common platform for sharing and learning, ALM bridges knowledge gaps by bringing relevant knowledge and stakeholders together to exchange information, experiences, and expertise, with leadership, facilitation and strong participation by Southern institutions.

African regional water resource information system (UN-Water/Africa)

The UN-Water/Africa (formerly the Interagency Group for Water in Africa) is a collaboration of many UN agencies, formed in response to a request by the UNACC Subcommittee on Water Resources to coordinate and harmonize water activities in Africa by various UN and other subregional IGOs. UN-Water/Africa also promotes joint collaborative activities in water sector in Africa by these agencies.

Cap-Net

Cap-Net is an international network for capacity building in sustainable water management. It is made up of a partnership of autonomous international, regional and national institutions and networks committed to capacity building in the water sector, particularly with respoect to the development of IWRM and the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals.

Euro-Mediterranean Information System on know-how in the Water sector (EMWIS)

EMWIS, an initiative of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, provides a strategic tool for exchanging information and knowledge in the water sector between and within the Euro Mediterranean partnership countries (the 27 EU member states and 10 Mediterranean partner countries).

Gender & Water Alliance (GWA)

The Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) promotes women’s and men’s equitable access to and management of safe and adequate water, for domestic supply, sanitation, food security and environmental sustainability. GWA offers a number of resources on its website, notably its resource guide on gender and IWRM, aimed at assisting water and gender practitioners and professionals as well as persons responsible for gender mainstreaming.

Global Water Operators Partnership Alliance (GWOPA)

The Global Water Operators’ Partnership Alliance (GWOPA) is an alliance of partners working towards the common goal of making Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs) happen more often and with greater impact. Supported by a global network of partners and members from both the public and private sector, GWOPA’s aims to promote and enable impactful WOPs by creating awareness about WOPs, producing and sharing knowledge and tools, and rallying the funds and political backing to enable effective WOPs practice.

GWP Toolbox

The Global Water Partnership ToolBox is a free and open database with a library of background papers, policy briefs, technical briefs, perspective papers, case studies, and references aimed at helping water practitioners and professionals implement better approaches to managing water and learn more about improving water management at a local, national, regional or global level. The ToolBox also serves as a venue for engaging the broader water sector community through shared knowledge and network building.

IWA-WaterWiki

The IWA WaterWiki aims to provide a platform for the global water community to interact and share knowledge online. The Sustainable Sanitation (SuSanA)

The Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) is an informal network of organisations who share a common vision on sustainable sanitation. SuSanA came into existence in early 2007 and works as a coordination platform, working platform, sounding board, contributor to the policy dialogue on sustainable sanitation and as catalyst.

Transboundary Water Management Database

Launched in October 2011 by the Swedish Water House, the Transboundary Water Database maps the activities, processes, and projects of — and tools used by —actors working in transboundary water management (TWM). The Database identifies "knowledge gaps" and needs for further actions, thus informing decision-making in water management; highlights positive examples of TWM, acting as a motivation for increased investments by development partners; and promotes objective decision-making, thereby helping to form a framework for resource allocation in TWM.

UN CC:Learn

"The One UN Training Service Platform on Climate Change (UN CC:Learn) is a collaborative initiative involving 32 multilateral organizations which supports Member States, UN agencies and other development partners in designing and implementing country-driven, results-oriented and sustainable learning to address climate change. The initiative was launched at the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Summit. UN CC:Learn is included in the ""One UN Climate Change Action Framework"" of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) through the HLCP capacity development group convened by UNDP and UNEP. The CEB framework aims at maximizing existing synergies, eliminating duplication and optimizing the impact of the collective effort of UN organizations in combatting climate change. UN CC:Learn contributes to the implementation of Article 6 of the UNFCCCon training and education, and the individual capacity development pillar of the UNFCCC Capacity Development Framework.

The UN-Water Activity Information System (UNW-AIS) is an online platform to present and share information on water-related projects and learning initiatives from UN-Water members, partners and programmes. UNW-AIS is a platform for UN-Water members, partners and programmes as well as a broader audience including policy makers, water professionals, researchers and those from higher education for sharing information and knowledge from global to local level.

The UN-Water Indicators Portal offers the latest value information on the official UN-Water Indicators that are currently being measured and reported by UN-Water Members and Partners. These Indicators have been selected by the UN-Water Task Force on Indicators, Monitoring and Reporting. This UN-Water Portal aims to provide a means through which reporters, policy makers, researchers, and the general public alike can find the most updated information in a simple format.

Water Integrity network (WIN)

The mission of the Water Integrity Network (WIN) is to increase integrity levels and reduce corruption in the water sector through a pro-poor and pro-equity focus. To achieve its mission, WIN raises awareness about the issues of corruption in its different forms — and the fact that something can be done about it — through multi-stakeholder coalitions that build integrity. WIN also shares and facilitates the use of water integrity tools, methods and applied research findings, and knowledge among water-users and professionals.

Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC)

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) is a global multi-stakeholder partnership and membership organization that works to save lives and improve livelihoods. It does so by enhancing collaboration among sector agencies and professionals who are working to improve access for those without safe sanitation and clean drinking water. Through its work, WSSCC contributes to the broader goals of poverty eradication, health and environmental improvement, gender equality and long-term social and economic development.

World Water Council (WWC)

The World Water Council is an international multi-stakeholder platform, established in 1996 in response to an increasing concern about world water issues from the global community. The Council's mission is "to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels… to facilitate the efficient conservation, protection, development, planning, management and use of water…on an environmentally sustainable basis." The platform aims to encourage debates and exchanges of experience, as well as to catalyze initiatives and activities.
