3.3 Building on existing institutional
arrangements where feasible, establish a regional focus
for oceanography related to oil and chemical spill planning and response, for oceanographic
data processing, as well as management and modeling (Marine) GIS-based data
applications, that will share
information with the public and decision-makers.
· Review and assess national capacities for oceanography (including oil spill modeling).
· Through a high-level workshop, develop and agree on a policy for regional cooperation
in oceanography, in support of oil spill and chemical spill
response, with linkages to national and regional spill response
efforts.
Obtain ongoing national budget and
other financing, including private sector, to support regional focus for
oceanography related to spill planning and response.
