1. INTRODUCTION

This presentation is primarily based on the activities of the BCLME Advisory groups on Marine Pollution and that of Legal and Maritime Affairs to which the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication is expected to play a significant role.

2. MARINE POLLUTION PREVENTION

The area of marine pollution can be divided in to two main areas:

2.1 Operational pollution and

2.2 Accidental pollution

Training and Capacity Building for the operational area may include the following:

· Relevant international and regional conventions/protocols (OPRC, CLC and FUND etc.)

· Implementation Procedures

· Implementation of Oil Spill Contingency Plan: National and Regional

3. RECURRENT

There is also another area (Recurrent) which requires our attention in this regard.

Aspects of this area include the following:

· Oil spill training and exercises

· Use and maintenance of pollution prevention equipment

· Oil sampling

· Updating and reviewing of legislation
