The Center for the Environment is happy to present the 2006 Cornell University awardees of the
Teresa Heinz Scholars for the Environmental Research Program:
Megan E. O'Rourke, Ph.D. student, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Insect
Outbreaks in Agriculture: Interactions of Land-Use, Insect Diet Breadth and Insect
Dispersal

The Teresa Heinz Scholars for Environmental Research Program seeks to enrich the public's
understanding of emerging environmental issues and to provide effective solutions for
environmental problems. It is designed to support doctoral dissertation and masters thesis for
research on emerging environmental issues. This prestigious scholarship program is open to
students from Cornell University and eight other universities. A total of 16 one-time, one-year
awards are offered annually. Research must have public policy relevance that increases society's
understanding of environmental problems and their solutions. Please note: CfE assists the Heinz
foundation in the review process, but students apply directly to the Heinz Foundation. More
information about the award can be found on the CfE's website.
13th Annual Heinz Award Winners Named
The co-recipients in the Environment category were Bernard Amadei, professor and founder of
Engineers without Borders, and Susan Seacrest, environmental advocate and founder of the
