CORNELL CENTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
(CfE) News and Announcements - June 10, 2008
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Message regarding the Center for the Environment
On June 30, 2008, the Center for the Environment (CfE) at Cornell
University will officially close. The environmental mission of CfE will
become a key part of the new Cornell Center for a Sustainable Future
(CCSF), a cross-campus organization advancing a portfolio of research
activities covering energy, the environment, and economic development
programs. The CCSF promotes collaborations across Cornell and with
selected external partners, leveraging Cornell's resources to help build a
sustainable future for the world. The CCSF website is
http://sustainablefuture.cornell.edu/.
Programs developed by the CfE will transition to CCSF over the next year.
In particular, the Jill and Ken Iscol Distinguished Environmental
Lectures, which bring prominent scholars, newsmakers, scientists, and
leaders to Cornell to address environmental issues of paramount importance
to humankind, will remain a keystone event at Cornell under the stewardship
of CCSF. Recognizing scholarship on the frontiers of scientific inquiry and
promoting an interdisciplinary approach to solving environmental problems,
the Iscol Lectures provide opportunities for Cornell students, faculty, staff,
and the public to gain new knowledge about pressing environmental issues
and enrich the intellectual character of the University and the community.
Questions about the transition of CfE programs to CCSF should be directed
to Professor Anthony Hay, Interim Director of CfE, or to Professor Frank
DiSalvo, Director of CCSF.
Please look for the weekly News and Announcements distribution to return
in Fall 2008.
