Describe the PPG activities: The participating countries requested GEF assistance to address their wastewater management challenges. A PIF was thus designed and cleared by the CEO on 26 September 2008 and subsequently approved by Council on 12 November 2008. The baseline information available to date is not sufficient to design the most effective intervention. Therefore, all of the below proposed PPG activities are meant to elaborate the PIF into a Project Document which will pilot revolving financial mechanisms and their related waste water management policy reforms and will result in investment projects. The following activities will be undertaken during the preparatory phase.

1 Project ID number will be assigned initially by GEFSEC. If PIF has been submitted earlier, use the same ID number as PIF.

* IDB co-financing consists of i) US$444,500 for the development of water/wastewater sectoral plans in seven of the countries that endorsed the project (Barbados, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panamá, Suriname and Guyana). However, as we plan to include more countries in the final project, the IDB has funding available for 17 of the 24 countries of the Wider Caribbean (around US$63,500 per country), plus US$200,000 for additional studies in Mexico; ii) US$150,000 for consulting services already contracted for the preliminary design of the financial mechanism, project development facility execution scheme, and the preliminary identification of pilot projects.
