THE WORLD BANK/IFC/M.I.G.A.
OFFICE MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 13, 2008
TO: Ms. Monique Barbut, CEO/Chairperson, GEF
FROM: Steve Gorman, GEF Executive Coordinator
SUBJECT: Project Name: Sustainable Fisheries Development Projects in 9 West African Countries (P106063)
1. Please find attached a revised PIF for the above-mentioned project for your approval. A PIF for this project was earlier approved in on February 13, 2008 under the overall Strategic Partnership for a Sustainable Fisheries Investment Fund in the Large Marine Ecosystems of Sub-Saharan Africa, which was approved by the GEF Council in November, 2005.
2. The revised PIF for the project is being submitted for approval to reduce the total GEF project amount by US$ 1 million. The US$ 1 million would be added to the Sustainable Management of Fish Resources project to cover a larger area of the coastal fisheries and ecosystems between the Cap Vert Peninsula and the Saloum River Delta (for which revised PIF is also being submitted simultaneously). This will not change the approved envelope of the strategic partnership. This reduction would be justified by the replication benefits of having a workable model for sustainable fisheries management in Senegal already underway, that could be more easily shared and introduced in the neighboring countries. Thus, the agreed outcomes in the PIF for the ‘Sustainable Fisheries Development Projects in 9 West Africa Countries’ would not be changed, but rather enhanced.
3. Please let me know if you require any additional information to complete your review of the PIF.
Many thanks.Attachments : 1. Revised PIF
