The two UNIDO/IMO/IPIECA Meetings were officially
opened by the Deputy Minister for Harbors and Railways,
Hon. Sophia Horner Sam, on April 23 2007. Capt. Georgina
Jopap- Tackie, Project Director, UNDP Accra, chaired the
opening ceremony.
In attendance were Dr. Chika Ukwe, Project Manager,
UNIDO and Mr. Malamine Thiam, Technical Officer,
Marine Environment Division of IMO and Mr. Phillipe de
Suzane, IPIECA.

The Meetings attracted about 60 participants from
maritime organizations and related institutions in the 16
countries of the IGCC as well as representatives of Oil
Companies and the Private Sector.
The objectives of the Meetings were for participants to:
undertake gap analysis and formulation of Action Plan for
the development of in-country sensitivity maps; develop a
regional guideline on oil spill sensitivity mapping; develop
draft sub-regional contingency plans; develop a draft
agreement for co-operation in cases of major pollution
incidents.
