ANATOLIA WATERSHED
REHABILITATION PROJECT
Ankara
2008
General Problems Of Watersheds
· Soil erosion
· Degradation of natural resources
· Over- and irregular pasturage in rangelands
· Poor vegetation
· Destruction and over-use of forest lands
· Herd livestock
· Dispersed settlement
· Over-population (insufficient labour force due to migration
in some watersheds in recent years)
· General Problems of Watersheds
· Low level of efficiency in animal production
· Misuse of lands and agricultural techniques
· Insufficient farmlands
· Insufficient water resources
· Insufficient modern agricultural techniques
· Insufficient organic substance in farmlands
· Rural poverty
· Lack of training and awareness in the use of natural
resources
As a result : Poverty and Migration
Anatolia Watershed Rehabilitation Project
Project implemented in Amasya, Çorum, Samsun, Tokat, Sivas and
Kayseri provinces which drain their rivers in the Kizilirmak and
Yeilirmak basins, pour into the Black Sea.
Project Development Objective-1
The project is to support sustainable natural resource
management practices in twenty-eight (28)
microcatchments in Anatolia and Turkey's Black Sea
Region and thereby raise incomes of communities
affected by resource degradation.
Project Global Objective
The key global environment objective is to introduce
farming practices which will reduce the discharge of
nutrients and other agricultural pollutants into surface
and ground water in watersheds draining into the Black
Sea in four provinces.
Project Activities (1)
I Rehabilitation of Degraded Natural Resources
·
Rehabilitation of forest, range and agricultural lands,
·
Improve environmentally-friendly agricultural practices,
·
Establishment of the monitoring system for water pollution
control
II Income Generation Activities
·
Develop small-scale irrigation,
·
Agricultural production on terraces,
·
Farm production/income diversification,
·
Improvement of livestock, greenhouse, fishing, beekeeping,
etc.
Project Activities (2)
III Strengthening Institutional Capacity and Policy for
obey EU standarts
·
Support Implementing EU Nitrate Directive
·
Implement and Introduce Agricultural Practices Rules
·
Institutional Support About Organic Farming
IV Training and Public Awareness Building
·
Trainings are about protection of natural resources,
increase of agricultural productivity, use of inorganic
manure by farmers and organic farming technics
