The Nigerian Minister for Environment who was rep-
resented by the GCLME National Director, Mr. Maiwada
Omar recounted that the 16 countries have resolved to
work together to address their common concerns, af-
ter realizing that the traditional sectoral approach to
management had failed in bringing about much needed
changes in environment and living resources uses. He
stated that the resolve includes adopting a holistic and
multi-sectoral approach embodied in the ICAM as pro-
posed methodology capable of achieving sustainable
coastal resource use.
