ANNEX 1.2.3
Hydro-biological results
PHASE I - period – September
Hydro-biological results
PHASE I - period – September
I NA Persina
1. Macro-invertebrates (makrozoobentos) aren’t identified in three of the stations – drainage channels near pumping stations Pеrsin 1, 2 as well as in Martvo marsh-land. Two species of Planorbarius/Coretus corneus and Lymnaea stagnalis are identified Pischensko marsh-land on Belene island. They can survive for some period in the wet mud.
II PA Kalimok-Brashlen
1. There are no macro invertebrates into the three monitoring stations on former fish breeding ponds “Nova Cherna” – on the East part of the ponds. This is an indication for bad oxygen regime in the wet part of the fish breeding ponds – during the summer time no dissolved oxygen is available and digestion processes are on. The water ecosystems are totally degraded.
2. The same is the situation in the Brashlian marsh-land. The water ecosystem is degraded and two types of mollusks (water snail) are detected. They are resistant to draying up being into the wet mud. These are the same species as the ones in the Peshchansko marsh-land on Belene Island - Planorbarius/Coretus corneus and Lymnaea stagnalis.
3. Developed communities of macro invertebrates are detected everywhere along the main drainage channel and in Tarchila River. Indicators of heavy bottom slurry processes are observed (mollusks, oligchetes). Tarchila River and the station on the Main drainage channel are the most organic loaded sites. The indicator for heavy organic pollution is dominating Chironromus gr. thummii.
4. Typical species are characteristic for muddy ore sandy bottom in the investigated part of river Danube in the Kalimok-Brashlen section. Distinctive results are determined in the station at town of Tutrakan at the drainage system outlet. There the indicators for significant organic pollution are dominating as Tubifex tubifex and Chironromus gr. thummii.
