Mission: The mission of the United Nations University is to contribute, through collaborative research and education, dissemination and advisory services, to efforts to resolve the pressing global problems of human survival, development and welfare that are the concern of the United Nations, its Peoples and Member States. In doing so, UNU pays due attention to the social sciences and the humanities as well as the natural sciences.

Description: The United Nations University (UNU) — the academic arm of the United Nations system — implements research and educational programmes in the area of sustainable development, with the particular aim of assisting developing countries.

Water Activities: UNU is represented at IFAT 2014 by UNU Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (FLORES).

UN-Water Focus Area(s) : UNU-FLORES was established for the purpose of integrated management of material fluxes and of resources. UNU-FLORES extends and upscales the concept of integrated resource management by adopting a truly integrative perspective by explicitly considering interrelated environmental resources such as water, soil and waste and by emphasizing fluxes of resources between phases and between compartments.
