Mission: UNITAR’s mission is to deliver innovative training and conduct research on knowledge systems to develop the capacity of beneficiaries. Our goal is to be a centre of excellence recognized within and outside the United Nations system for standard-setting methodologies, high-quality training, and research capacity on knowledge systems.

Description: UNITAR is making concrete contributions to developing the capacities of tens of thousands of people around the world. Since its inception in 1965, UNITAR has built sustainable partnerships acquiring unique expertise and accumulating experience and knowledge to fulfil its mandate. These accomplishments have enabled UNITAR to respond to the growing demand from UN Member States for training for capacity development in the fields of Environment; Peace, Security and Diplomacy; and Governance.

Water Activities: UNITAR’s environmental training activities and services seek to make a constructive and cost-effective contribution to the global challenge of protecting the environment for present and future generations. Training and capacity development related to the implementation of global and regional multilateral environmental agreements has become a priority for the Institute. UNITAR’s environmental training activities currently focus around the following four thematic focal areas: Chemicals and Waste Management; Climate Change; Environmental Governance and Law; Biodiversity.
