Vanuatu – Increasing Resilience to Climate Change and Natural Hazards

The overarching goal of this project is to mainstream climate change adaptation and climate-related disaster risk reduction into core aspects of the Vanuatu economy and resource management systems. It would aim to strengthen climate resilience and disaster risk reduction in key sectors in Vanuatu by promoting a risk management approach that addresses both weather and climate related hazards. The following are the proposed project components: I. Mainstreaming climate change cdaptation and disaster risk reduction at national, provincial and community levels. II. Strengthening capacity in data analysis, mapping and vulnerability assessments. III. Implementing climate resilient measures in targeted sectors: a) Enhancing resilience of watersheds through integrated water resource management, b) Increasing adaptive capacity of coastal communities, c) Building capacity for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in land use policies, plans and regulations, and d) Enhancing climate and disaster risk management in the tourism sector.
