Capacity Development to Support NDMP

In order to support the development of capacities in diverse ministries and national institutions that are needed to help countries move from crisis-based approaches towards more pro-active, risk-based approaches to drought management, WMO, UNCCD, FAO, UNW-DPC and CBD have initiated the UN-Water initiative on "Capacity Development to Support National Drought Management Policies". International events and regional workshops started in 2013 and will run until the end of 2014...

Safe Use of Wastewater in Agriculture

The “Safe Use of Wastewater in Agriculture” is a multi-year capacity development project which bundles the competencies and experience of seven UN-Water members, partners, and programmes (FAO, WHO, UNEP, UNU-INWEH and UNW-DPC, in collaboration with ICID and IWMI). In many urban and peri-urban areas where competition for freshwater is high, "wastewater" - when used safely - can be a valuable resource.

Spate Irrigation Systems

Spate irrigation is the art and science of managing floods for irrigation. E-lectures on Spate Irrigation Systems are now available in UNW-AIS. The Video Lecture Series on Spate Irrigation Systems is a follow-up from the "Mainstreaming Spate Irrigation in Higher Education" Workshop. The lectures aim to capture and disseminate key aspects and emerging issues of Spate Irrigation systems relevant to rural livelihoods, and food and water security.

UN-Water at IFAT 2012

IFAT is one of the world’s leading trade fairs for environmental technology, specifically focusing on water, sewage, waste and raw materials management. In 2012, the fair welcomed over 125,000 visitors from more than 180 countries. The UN-Water Center at IFAT contained a booth for each participating UN organization and enabled visitors to learn about UN-Water and the activities of its members and partners.

  • The UN-Water Activity Information System (UNW-AIS) is an online platform to present and share information on water-related projects and learning initiatives from UN-Water and its members and partners. UNW-AIS is a platform for UN-Water and its members & partners as well as a broader audience including policy makers, water professionals, researchers and those from higher education for sharing information and knowledge from global to local level.


    UNW-AIS offers

    A searchable global database with more than 600 water projects and 3,500 project-related documents
    A pool of learning materials and a platform currently hosting around  20 joint training activities of UN-Water members and partners
    A user-friendly interface for displaying, updating and exporting data
